Stage Frightened?
been super busy at work this week. The Kauffman Foundation is going to be around hanging around the von Liebig Center for the next few days to determine whether our model is fit for their funding. This lady is the point (wo)man: Christine Gulbranson. She’s pretty young and achieved quite a few things. What have I done with my life, I’m already 23!!!!! =P
Anyways, Just spent 12 hours preparing a presentation, not really a presentation, just 1 slide. LOL. Basically they wanted me, of all people that they could talk to here, to talk about myself and what I’ve been working on as the intern. Now, I’ve been working on about 7 or 8 different projects from nanowires to color cosmetics and I only had about 5 minutes to speak. Now you know why it took so long to put it together.
Anyways, it went well. I’m starting to get this public speaking thing. Never would I have imagined myself being so comfortable speaking in front of people. Preparation is the key - in my case 12 hours for 5 minutes. Not very efficient but you do what it takes to get your point across. It just takes lots of practice - basically if you cringe at the idea of speaking in front of people, then you need to make yourself do it more. I was like that just a few months ago. I recommend that you join Dale Carnegie or Toastmasters or something if you are looking for a way to practice. If not just join a student org for free to get that experience.
