LinkedIn.com
I really like this site, its like facebook with a purpose. I’ve actually used it to set up 3 informational interviews. It’s very useful, although not all the services are for free. Normally to contact someone not in your network, you’ll need to have a subscription to have access to their contact info or your need an introduction from someone who may know that person. But here’s a tip, if you find someone you want to meet on LinkedIn, just try to google their contact info and send them an Add To Your Network Invite on LinkedIn. That invitation allows about 250 characters for you to give them your contact info and tell them you want to talk to them. It’s a loophole I’m sure they are going to fix eventually so use it while you can. I’ve found that people are more willing to answer a LinkedIn email than a plain cold email. The 250 characters will keep your message concise and they will be able to see your network and profile to get a feel for who you are.
