Reinventing the nanowire LED

Why is it that these technological breakthroughs keep on getting reinvented (remember nanocurry? Granted the materials used in this latest latest nanowire LED are different and give the light emitted from the LEDs different characteristics, but I feel like the focus of research on this topic should be on developing a way to mass produce this technology into a commercial product. The phenomenon of nanowires emitting light when you plug them into a socket is old news by now. I will be more excited when a manufacturing process is developed. Tons of startups flaunting breakthrough technologies have failed to get financed because of this fact.

Here are some of the other nanowire LED breakthroughs from the past, GaN and ZnO nanowire LEDs. These two discoveries were the true breakthroughs I feel, though I am a little bias of the ZnO one.

If you are wondering wtf I am talking about here is some background on LEDs and why they are the next big thing in green tech!

Techy overview of nanowires LEDs. (Do not open unless you are a nerd.)
